Slip: Loosened #3, 2003
Ink and acrylic on paper
50" x 132"
The work was donated from the collection of Victor Edwin Campbell, the Godfather of the artist. As Pearce states, ‘my Godfather was the earliest champion of me and my work aside from my parents. Victor introduced me to magic, beauty, literature, art, humor and namely how to pass time with excellent conversation. We spent hours looking at and rearranging art and objects together, we had cocktails and delicious dinner and rearranged again. He moved through life like a small dandelion seed, the wind for him was language, music, all night parties. He taught me how to set a beautiful table, how to host a garden party, how to surprise a guest or arouse their curiosity. He was the most unexpected and surprising person, yet also most reassuring in the darkest moments. He sat soberly and dutifully next to my husband following his heart attack, reading quietly next to him while I worked and my husband healed. This piece, Loosened, was inspired by water moving over rocks in the Current River, ever moving and changing, something I learned to find comfort in and love for courtesy of my Godfather Victor’.
