David Stenbeck: Cancelled Dates
August 6, 2020 - Jenn Singer is pleased to present David Stenbeck: Cancelled Dates, an online exhibition of new work created during the worldwide pandemic, by published poet and contemporary artist David Stenbeck.
The artistic reflections in these open edition works by David Stenbeck touch on current events since the first case of COVID-19 was reported and changed our sense of “normal” forever. The plague that cancelled our dates, our dreams and in too many cases, our entire lives, isn’t the only plague being fought at the moment – the scourge of racism, bigotry and politicized hate that have been infecting our world for far too long are being fought against with the same might as the battle against COVID-19.
Even through the ugliness of the pandemic, and the fractious behavior it has stirred, goodness has emerged. Outdated traditions are dying. New, more inclusive, movements are burgeoning. Isolation is highlighting the importance of togetherness, even if from a distance. Stenbeck’s Cancelled Dates series illustrates the beauty, hope and loneliness of this strange time. Our collective emotions are echoed in Stenbeck’s neon lit landscapes, skyscapes and an optimistically pink date book of all things cancelled.
David Stenbeck: Cancelled Dates can be viewed online beginning Thursday, August 6, 2020 via jennsingergallery.com and artsy.net/jenn-singer-gallery.
Through September 2020, 10% of each sold work will be donated to one of the following organizations: WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Black Lives Matter & The Trevor Project.
