A new artwork by Jenn Singer artist Mandy Coppes-Martin was on view from March 1 - 5, 2023 at Collect Art Fair in London, featured by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).
Last year Mandy Coppes-Martin was honored to be named as a QEST Scholar for Paper Artistry & Lacemaking. The scholarship enabled Coppes-Martin to complete an 11 month training program with master lace maker Jane Wright with a concentration on traditional Honiton bobbin lace, new pattern design and the development and making of new contemporary lace works that coincide with the artist’s current practice.
QEST supports excellence in British craftsmanship by funding the training and education of talented and aspiring makers. Since 1990, QEST has awarded £5.3 million to 700 makers working across the UK in 130 craft disciplines. In addition to financial support, the charity provides alumni with business masterclasses and opportunities for exhibitions, collaborations, and commissions through QEST’s networks and partnerships.
Mandy Coppes-Martin’s newest artwork, An Ancient Relationship, created with the support of QEST, was made using the artist’s handmade lace, the artist’s grandmother's lace, raw silk, handmade paper thread and vintage leather gloves. It is a unique work measuring 57 1/10 in diameter.
