Timothy P. Wilson: The Cotswolds, Part 1
Timothy P. Wilson: The Cotswolds, Part 1
December 7 – December 21, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jenn Singer presents Timothy P. Wilson: The Cotswolds, Part I, an online exhibition of new contemporary plein air oil paintings by artist Timothy P. Wilson, dropping December 7, 2021 on jennsingergallery.com.
The exclusive, by-registration-only drop will include Wilson’s first paintings of the English countryside after exploring the footpaths and valleys of The Cotswolds this Autumn through a generous artist residency supported by Hawkwood in Stroud, UK.
Wilson’s abstraction of traditional landscapes disrupts the genre. He states that his recent work “has involved painting on location as a catalyst to investigate abstraction. The physical experience and immersion into a location serve as a preliminary mode to document and become aware of my surroundings, which I then continue to expound upon in the studio in subsequent layers and larger scale - blurring, obliterating, and then redefining the initial experience for a more personal and unique outcome. Although the end result may become a more psychological entity, the memory and vocabulary developed from painting on location are pivotal to the process. I also enjoy looking at the cute cows.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Recently featured in National Geographic, Timothy P. Wilson, based on the coast of Maine, works from direct painting on location and expands upon his studies in larger studio paintings. Both a meditative ritual and obsessive dedication, his daily outings in stormy, serene, and inclement weather to coastal Atlantic locations help inform an experiential vocabulary and expressionist mark making. After years of portrait and figurative work, Timothy merged his holistic concepts of the ocean, landscape and figure; aiming to find a more abstract and resonating image through the natural deconstruction of imagery.
Wilson has enjoyed residencies at the DeDee Shattuck Gallery in Westport, Massachusetts, the Hewnoaks Residency in Lovell, Maine, Hawkwood in Stroud, UK and was an Art Students League selected fellow at their Hudson Valley residence location.
Timothy Wilson’s works are held in international private collections, have been exhibited in the US and Europe and are part of the Restoration Hardware Contemporary Art Collection. He formerly taught at the Maine College of Art. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008.
