A collection of Australian cover songs by global artists, conceptualized by Julia Stone, raising funds for Australian fire relief efforts
February 17, 2020
David Stenbeck (aka @dovneon), a Swedish contemporary artist known for his work in Cinema 4D and represented by Jenn Singer, has created the album cover artwork for benefit album “Songs for Australia”, a collection of Australian cover songs by global artists, conceptualized by musician Julia Stone. The album will be released digitally through BMG on Friday, March 6, 2020.
The concept of the artwork for the album, as commissioned by Stone, was to be floating cloud in the shape of Australia, reflected in the water. She wanted the image to represent a hope for better times, where the beauty of the country is reflected in ethos and spirit.
David Stenbeck was on board without hesitation when Stone reached out, donating his time for the project. Contributing musicians include The National, Damien Rice, Julia Stone, Kurt Vile, Dermot Kennedy, Joan As Police Woman, Paul Kelly, Sam Amidon, Dan Sultan, Dope Lemon, Pomme, Martha Wainwright and Petit Biscuit.
Stone says, “I couldn’t believe the responses I was getting. I received the most heart-warming replies from the biggest, busiest artists in the world. Most of these artists have toured here, have family here, friends here, have lived here or spent time here. Everyone has such great memories of this country and to see it in flames was breaking everyone’s hearts. I often got the response that people were so happy to be offered the opportunity to do something. Everyone feels helpless in times like this”.
Together these good humans offer a collection of incredible covers of iconic Australian songs, made with love, sadness and the desire to help.
Proceeds from sales of the album will go to organizations in Australia working towards creating a better future for the country that are helping to rebuild during and after the bushfire crisis. Charities include: SEED - First indigenous Youth Climate network, Firesticks - The Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation, Emergency Leaders for Climate Action, Landcare Australia, WildArk and NSW Rural Fire Service.
